Order 171 Insignia 1

One of the few symbols of Order 171

An upcoming private, borderline sanbox role-playing group based off of various groups of modern special forces lead by Kara-Meir I . In essence, a revival of an old Temple Knight clan that no longer hold allegence to Saradomin or the Temple Knights.

History

Pre Temple Knights

Order 171 was originally a unit of Temple Knights formed back during the year 150 during the 5th age by former Captain Hayley Spears and was originally code-named 'D'. The 'D' designation and Order 171 name being a tie-in to a Temple Knight disinformation campaign, trying to decieve their enemies into thinking there was a gnome glider regiment with numerous units flying in the area. It was concieved as a 'commando' force to operate behind enemy lines and perform counter-terrorism tasks the Temple Knights did not usually handle and consisted of four officers and 50 other ranks. It's first mission, during the seige of Falador, was a succesful sabatouge event against the Kinshra before the raid. It's second mission was also a success, being a hostage rescue at an Asgarnian Embassy in Yanille. Many succesful operations soon followed after; Most of which could be looked up on Commander Spears's file.

Post Temple Knights

The year 169 marked the end of Order 171 as the Temple Knights saw no further need for the detatchment. Although Order 171 was disbanned, Captain Spears was promoted to Commander and was transferred over towards a different unit as Order 171 remained dead for the next few years.

Modern Order 171

As by now Commander Spears conteplating leaving the Temple Knights for retirement is public knowledge to the rest of her comrades, the Temple Knights have offered Hayley a position back in command of a new Order 171. Still not wanting to buy into it, Hayley had officially retired from the Temple Knights coincidentally as the second God Wars started. Whether or not she stayed Sarothic or converted to another religion is not known. However, as Hayley retired the Temple Knights still wanted to have Hayley within contact. They gave her full funding to create a new Order 171 that was not officially part of the Temple Knights. Although funded by them, this new Order 171 does not work for or endorse the Temple Knights in any way; They were simply formed to stop terrorism. The retired Hayley Spears now leads the unit, just as she had in her 'glory days'. With the founding of the new unit came the invention of practical new gear and an updated version of their old Temple Knight bolt-shooter. The Sarothic Church deemed this new gear and weaponry unholy and have condemned the public use of said gear. Respecting the Church's request, Hayley agreed and Order 171 does not use their new technology or gear in the public eye. The unit now, to this day, fights terrorism in the underground black operational world of Gielinor.

Organization and Structure

Little publicity verifiable exists on Order 171. Order 171 comprises of three units. One regular and two reserve units. The regular unit is Order 171 22 and the two reserves are designated 21 and 23.

Squadrons

Order 171 22 has four operational squadrons, A B D and G. Each squadron consists of about 60 men commanded by an officer, divided into four troops. Troops usually consist of 16 men, and each patrol within a troop consists of four men, each possessing a different skill

Recruitment, Selection, and Training

Nearly every member belonging to any of Gielinor's militaries could be considered for Order 171 selection, but historically the majority of candidates have had either a Temple Knight or Special Forces background. All instructors are full members of Order 171. Selections are held twice a year, in both Summer and Winter, located somewhere in Southern Asgarnia. Selection lasts for five weeks and normally starts with about two hundred candidates. On arrival candidates first complete a personal fitness test and a combat fitness test. They then march cross country against the clock, increasing the distances covered each day, culmilating to what is known as Endurance: A sixty four kilometer march with full equipment scaling and decsending the cliffs of the coast in Southern Asgarnia for twenty hours. By the end of the hill phase candidates must be able to run four miles in thirty minutes and swim two miles in ninety minutes.

Following the hill phase is the jungle phase, taking place in Karamja. Candidates are taught navigation, patrol formation and movement, and jungle survival skills. Candidates returning to Southern Asgarnia finish training in battle plans and foreign weapons and take part in combat survival excercises, the final one being a week long escape and evasion. Candidates are formed into patrols and carry nothing more than a tin can filled with survival equipment. They are told to head for a point by first light. The final selection test, and arguably the most controversial, is resistance to interrogation, lasting about thirty six hours.

Typically, fifteen to twenty percent of candidates make it through the hill phase selection process. From the approximately two hundred candidates, most will drop out within the first few days, and by the end about thirty will remain. Those who complete all phases of selection are rewarded with a transfer to an operational squadron.

Order 171 Reserve Selection

The Order 171 Reserve Regiments undergo a separate selection process, as a part-time program over a long period designated to select volunteers with the right qualities. It is emphasised that to stand any chance of success volunteers must be physically fit at the start of the course. The qualities required are as follows:

-Physically and Mentally robust

-Self-confident

-Self-disciplined

-Able to work alone

-Able to assimilate information and new skills

This is followed by Standard Operational Procedure Training on Special Forces tactics, techniques, and procedures. This is progressive with the emphasis on individuals assimulating new skills while under physical and mental pressure.

Uniform Distinctions

Normal formal headress for Order 171 is a grey colored beret, it's cap badge is a downward pointed sword wreathed with wings worked into the cloth of a heather shield. Their ceremonial dress uniform is distinguished by a light gray stripe on the trousers; the commanding officer and the officer of the day wear a black leather pouch belt mounted with a silver whistle chain.
