House Grey

House Grey is one of Gielinor’s oldest surviving Noble Houses, dating to the beginning of the Fourth Age during the formations of human kingdoms.  House Grey originated as an influential family of Misthalinite magi, infamous for their work combating the forces of Drakan for many years. Many more years would pass before they eventually headed east to aid in the unification of Asgarnia alongside King Raddallin. House Grey would eventually rise to the throne of Asgarnia in its own right, famously reunifying and expanding Raddallin’s kingdom without a single battle. After a betrayal within the family, the Greys abdicated from Asgarnia and took up the Duchy of Yanille in Kandarin.

History

The Grey Family is a military family with a history largely buried deep into the past of the public record. Dating back to around the year 200 of the fourth age, a tribal chieftain, Septimius Grey, founded the family when they settled the village of Byzan. The village remained independent for nearly 800 years until, like all the settlements around it, it paid homage to Avarrocka and became a part of the Kingdom of Misthalin.

Faithfully serving the kingdom, when the call to war came against Lord Lowerniel Drakan, The Byzantines were one of the first to answer the call. For the next few hundred years, the battle with the Zamorakian hordes raged on, and the Grey family gained notoriety for their leadership capabilities, as well as combat prowess. The Grey’s became notable for producing some of the most powerful battle-mages of the age, with the head of the Grey family often being adressed an Archmage out of tradition.

--It is also notable that Sashi Grey, a branch family member, became famous for traveling away for several years on a sea voyage, and returning with a new hand-to-hand “Martial Style” known as AikiTekiDo (The Way of Harmonizing with the Spirit of the Enemy). The style was known for utilizing the basic physics of balance, momentum, and centrifugal force to defeat larger and stronger opponents by utilizing their strength against them. Sashi describe the style this way; “If you have the strength of one man, and you opponent has the strength of ten, only through harmony can you defeat him with the strength of eleven."
