With the addition of the Te'pooka article to our wiki after Kaboto, Jandres, and many other earlier characters at the center of custom religious structures (Archonism, Aztarwynianism, the Deistic Church), the use of characters who either "are" or believe that they are the chosen one / son / daughter / favorite / prophet / messenger / etc. of an existing god, or who "are" or believe they are deities themselves, has become a hot, controversial topic.
Some common arguments both for and against these roleplays and characters include:
- It's often percieved as mary-suish, more to make the player feel special than to be of real worth to overall public roleplay
- It can be used to generate inspired new roleplay, especially among smaller groups
- It's powerplaying the gods and, in some cases, literal godmodding.
- It shouldn't be discouraged because it's just more good-natured roleplay
- It's becoming a thing; to some, it's starting to seem overdone now and is no longer a creative idea.
- Many of these characters aren't actually stated outright to for-sure be gods/demigods; they mostly either claim to be gods/demigods or are outright delusional.
So, folks, here is your place to discuss this without spamming up anybody's articles.
