For awhile now i've been getting a lot of criticism about my character Kaboto Leafgrinder/Kobalos about him claiming he is the son of Bandos and a demi god. Well i'm here to give my two cents and see if I can flip peoples minds on what they think about when they say "God."
Irl, people for millions of years, who saw something they didn't understand, solved their understanding by saying there was a god in charge of it. There are many religion still today where they believe there are different gods for the wind, crops, sky, anger, peace, love, bugs, sun etc. I feel like on Runescape we miss-use the term. "God." People who say you cannot be a god because that is lore break. Well, let me give you the definition of "God"
1 God: A being or object believed to have more than natural attributes and powers and to require worship.
2 God: A spirit or being that has great power, strength, knowledge, etc., and that can affect nature and the lives of people.
3 God: A person or idea that greatly loved or admired.
In a sense, anything can be considered a god if you use god to its real life meaning. Anything is a god so long as someone BELIEVES it. Because the term god is completely an opinion. However I understand there are differences with irl religions and Gielinorian ones. Irl no god has yet been proven. (And please dont go into debate about irl gods because thats not what this is about.) Wile in Runescape we have first hand proof that our "Gods" exist and they walk among us. But what is a god in Runescape? What honestly gives Saradomin, Zamorak, Seren, Marimbo, etc the right to be called a god? Well, Jagex placed this God tier system on them. Ranking in some level of power in measurement on each being. But what is it that gives the right to these beings getting to be called "gods"? Is the certain level of power they have achieved? The wisdom? Strength? Acutally its just the fact that people want to worship them. The Adventurer has defeated the Bandos Avatar, who was, granted, a Avatar, but had the rank of 7 god hood anyway. He also defeated the powerful mahjarrat Zemouregal and Enakhra during the world wakes. Not to mention defeated great vampyres like Vanstorm, and killed seemingly impossible beings like Nomad. The Adventurer has done all this and more so logically if it was up to "Power" you'd think he/she would be somewhere on the godhood ranking system. But he isn't. Why? Because no one thinks he/she is.
Saradomin, Zamorak, Guthix, Zaros, Armadyl, Bandos, the desert gods, elder gods, etc. None of them are actually "Gods" unless someone BELIEVES it. They are simply beings who have achieved a great level of power. And have gained worshipers and followers. Even the elder gods who created the multiverse are nothing but creators until someone gave them the name of "God." I can walk around Falador right now, and see a rock, and call it a god. And that would make it true. Because there is someone who says so. So even though when I my character claims to be the son of Bandos, even though he is actually not. If I still said he was a "God." It would still be TRUE, because someone other than himself believes in him, and fits the definition of a god. "God" is a title, not a level of power. This is where I feel Jagex has been getting this wrong. Now that you've heard my opinion, i'm looking forward to yours.
So my question is; Why can't a character we make be called a "God", and it be true?
Thank you all for taking time to read my rant, looking forward to the feedback.
