Hello all! there's one skill I haven't seen in role-play that I honestly think should be a part of RSRP. Maybe you've guessed it: Prayer.
Basically, it'd work a lot like it would in game, but modified to remove the aspect of game mechanics. So, basically, depending on how 'spiritual' your character is depends on how much 'Spiritual energy' they have to use on prayers.
How To Become 'Spiritual'/Meet the Requirements To Use This Skill:
Like any other skill, Prayer would need many hours of practice to use effectively, and many, /many/ years to master. Similar to magic, you'd need to be in an organization that has access to the information required to learn this skill. a farmer, no matter how naturally skilled, can't become a mage without going to a school that teaches magic. So, to become someone who could use prayer, you'd need to spend time at a church, or religious monastery where they can teach you prayers, or you must learn these skills from someone else who already knows the skills him/herself. Like Strength, you can only increase your limits through training. To increase your 'Spiritual Limit', one must do religious activities that tie closely with the dead. For example, burying the bones of a fallen creature could be seen as honourable. by it's soul, therefore you'd then earn it's favour. The more favour you get, the more easier it is to keep a prayer continuous.
How Does One Activate a Prayer?
Prayers, logically, would be used like spells in roleplay. During T W W, Kril was using demonic chanting to help him break into Guthix's chamber. So, saying that, one turn of chanting a prayer would be like one turn of charging magic. a very basic prayer, like 'iron skin', would take one turn to set into play, But a very powerful prayer would take five turns of chanting, for example, Soulsplit.
How Does One Recover From Prayer Usage?
Just like actual gameplay, meditating by an alter would slowly bring your reserve of Spiritual energy back up to it's limit.
List of Prayers, and How They'd Work:
I'm going to use a few prayers for the purpose of showing how they'd be used without game mechanics.
'Steel Skin' and other skin hardening prayers- Basically, an aura of mystical energy would surround the user's skin, making it denser. Even though they're not dense enough to take a blade without getting cut, they'd be resistant to bruises and weeker blunt blows.
Protect From Magic: this would cause an Aura that would absorb magical energy. This would be treated a lot like wearing leather armour.
Protect From Physical Damage: I'm combining protection from meele and protection from range because really, there's nothing differentiating the two protection wise. This prayer would make an aura which would force physical matter to be repelled. for Example, if an arrow was going to hit my chest, it'd be slowed down quite a lot, and would be a very shallow wound, something I could walk off.
WARNING, READ THIS PART VERY CAREFULLY
Due to the fact that protection prayers can be seen as O.P, I'd advise that this aura is a one hit shield. As in, the sudden drop in spiritual energy that'd be removed because you were protected would probably make your prayer unstable, therefore ending it. You may still, however, still have spiritual energy after that. That being said, you could probably project another protection prayer.
Magic/Range/Meele boosting prayers- They'd simply increase your strength, aim, or magical energy depending on the prayer.
ANCIENT CURSES- only a Zarosian with an Ancient Zarosian Teacher would be able to use these.
Sapping Curses- These would send out a pulse that would drain the enemy's strength, magical power, or blur their vision.
Deflection Prayers- Works the same way as protection prayers, but also allow the user to send a pulse of energy back at their attacker.
SoulSplit- though it's unlikely anyone would be able to use a prayer of this power, it would in theory activate an aura around it's user. When the user causes harm to living things around him/her, the aura would start to regenerate it's user.
Who Should Have Access to Prayers?
-Regular citizens, and alter boys might know a few prayers
-Priests
-Monks
-Paladins
-Religious figures
-High Priests
-Any possition that i've forgotten to mention that's 'religious'
Also, since prayer has been assumed icly to be a give from gods up until now, Godless may be against prayers. We now know, however, that prayers are a response from the dead. So Godless could use prayers, but likely won't.
what do you all think? (please forgive spelling and such.)
